Harmony Beat

William Harvey's thoughts about the ability of the arts to cross cultural barriers, including diary entries from his job teaching at Afghanistan National Institute of Music; news about Cultures in Harmony, the non-profit he founded in 2005; reviews of Bollywood movies; and general thoughts about cultural diplomacy.

Recent media stories

Dr. Ahmad Sarmast, Founder and Director of Afghanistan National Institute of Music and I were in New York for three days this week to meet with a variety of people to plan a possible tour by the Afghan Youth Orchestra to the US in February 2013. We are very pleased that the New York Times published this article about the potential tour.

Another recent media story is an article by Patrick McGuire, a current Juilliard student and a participant in a Cultures in Harmony project this summer, in which he examines cultural diplomacy, starting with my lecture at the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin in February 2011, and moving on outward to discuss Cultures in Harmony as an organization and the field of cultural diplomacy generally.
