Knowledge is the Beginning

I cannot make this recommendation strongly enough: see the documentary Knowledge is the Beginning. If you live in New York, see it tonight at 8:00 p.m. at Walter Reade Theater. Otherwise, you can buy the DVD here. I just did.

The movie chronicles the heroic efforts of Daniel Barenboim and the late Edward Said to found a youth orchestra comprised of Israeli and Arab musicians. Their success is inspiration to all of us who believe in the cause of cultural diplomacy. In my review of the film, I express the hope that Barenboim's humorous remark, "The impossible is often easier than the difficult," will inspire all of us who seek the "impossible" road towards peace and understanding.
